Kim Yu-na becomes global goodwill ambassador

Yu-na and Seoul: Kim Yu-na, left, the Olympic gold medalist in figure skating, receives a plaque appointing her as a global goodwill ambassador of Seoul from Mayor Oh Se-hoon, Thursday. Kim will promote Seoul when she goes abroad and the city can use her picture in international promotions.

Olympic figure skating gold medalist Kim Yu-na has been chosen as the face of Korea's capital city, Seoul City announced Thursday.

As the city's 'global goodwill ambassador,' Kim will feature in TV advertisements that will be broadcast around the world.

In addition, she will also participate in the shooting of a sports documentary that is set to air in the United States.

At the event celebrating her appointment Thursday, she donated a jacket to be auctioned off, with the proceeds going to charity.

"We thank Kim for being a part of Seoul's global marketing efforts," said Seoul mayor Oh Se-hoon, while attending the event.

피겨 여왕 김연아 선수가 서울시 글로벌 홍보대사로 위촉된다.

서울시는 벤쿠버 동계올림픽 금메달리스트인 김연아 선수를 민선5기 첫 번째 글로벌 홍보대사로 위촉한다고 29일 밝혔다.

이에 따라 시는 전 세계를 대상으로 진행하는 각종 해외마케팅 프로모션에서 김연아 선수의 초상권을 활용할 수 있게 된다. 김연아 선수는 올해 하반기 미국에서 방영되는 스포츠 다큐멘터리와 서울시 TV광고에 출연하며 시가 지원하는 해외 공동 프로모션에 참여하는 등 서울의 매력을 해외에 알릴 예정이다.

오세훈 시장은 이날 열린 위촉식에서 "디스커버리 채널의 Hip Korea 다큐멘터리에 출연해 한국과 서울을 전 세계에 알리는 등 평소 서울시 도시마케팅에 많은 관심을 보여준 김연아 선수에게 감사한다"며 "앞으로도 상호 윈-윈하는 방안을 지속적으로 발굴해 서울의 매력을 알려나가자"고 말했다.

김연아 선수는 "서울시 글로벌 홍보대사로서 서울을 전 세계에 알리는 뜻 깊은 일에 동참하게 돼 기쁘다"고 말했다. 김연아 선수는 이 자리에서 본인이 사인한 집업 재킷을 기증했다. 서울시는 자선 판매를 통해 희망플러스통장사업의 적립금으로 활용할 예정이다.
