Yoon Doo-joon, a member of K-pop boy band Highlight, will be featured in a new TV series tentatively titled, “There is No Goo Pil Soo,” according to his management company Around US Entertainment.
The agency confirmed his appearance Saturday, saying, “The drama will begin filming in July.”
In the series, Yoon is set to play Jung-seok, a genius in his 20s who aims to create his own startup company. After entering the most prestigious college in Seoul without any help from private educational institutions, Jung-seok dreams of becoming Korea's Mark Zuckerberg, the co-founder of Facebook.
“There is No Goo Pil Soo” will portray a bromance between Jung-seok and Goo Pil-soo, a man in his 40s who is seeking a breakthrough in his life, which will be played by Kwak Do-won. Kwak is best known for his roles in the movies “The Attorney” (2013) and “The Man Standing Next” (2019).
The soap opera will touch on diverse social issues in Korea ranging from education to employment.
“There is No Goo Pil Soo” is Yoon's first drama since he completed his mandatory military service in April 2020 after joining the Army in August 2018.
Yoon debuted in 2009 as the leader of K-pop boy band BEAST, which was renamed Highlight in 2017. The act has unleashed several hits, such as "Fiction" (2011) and "Beautiful Night" (2012). Highlight, which currently consists of Yang Yo-seob, Lee Gi-kwang, Son Dong-woon and Yoon, is poised to drop its new EP “The Blowing,” May 3.
Yoon has been actively pursuing an acting career as well. He has appeared in a number of popular shows, including KBS2's “Radio Romance” (2018).
