The Seoul Spring Festival of Chamber Music (SSF) will be held in May with the theme of "Ode to Joy" to mark the 251st anniversary of Beethoven in several cultural places in Seoul.

From May 13 to 23, up to 52 performers will put on 11 performances in the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts, the Seoul Arts Center and the house of Yun Po-sun.

For the first performance at the Sejong Center on March 13, J. N. Hummel's "Piano Trio in E-flat Major Op. 12" will be played by Kim Kyu-yeon (piano), Cho Jin-joo (violin) and Kang Seung-min (cello) under the title of "Beethoven's Contemporaries" while L. Boccherini's "Guitar Quintet in D Major G448 'Fandango'" will be performed by six artists including Park Jong-ho and Chang Lola. Pianists Lim Hyo-sun and Cheung Jae-won will play Beethoven's "Symphony No. 9, 4th mov. 'Ode to Joy' for two Pianos." J. W. Krogulski's "Piano Octet in D minor Op. 6" will be also performed by eight artists such as Mun Ji-yeong (piano). The house concert at Yun's house will be held on May 17 and will cover modern repertoires such as J. Ibert's "Entracte for Flute and Guitar."

On the last day of the festival, themed "Mad for Garlic," ShinPark Duo will start with C. Debussy's "Petite Suite L 65" (a piano piece for 4 hands) while pianist Lim Hyo-sun, violinist artistic director Kang Dong-suk and three other players will play C. Saint-Saens' "Piano Quintet in A minor Op. 14."

Kang Dong-suk, artistic director of the SSF, said in a press release that "Even though we were not able to fully get out of the coronavirus pandemic, we decided to reflect a positive and hopeful atmosphere in the world after the vaccination and the treatment of the virus. We are preparing for new repertoire."
