Nepalese ambassador honors 107 Koreans

Nepalese Ambassador to Korea Kaman Singh Lama awarded certificates of appreciation to 107 Koreans, including scholars, experts and artists, for their efforts to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.

The award ceremony, which took place Oct. 5 at a soccer field in Seoul's Seongbuk District, marked the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Korea and Nepal as well as the Nepalese festival Dashain. It was one of many events that the embassy organized to celebrate the anniversary.

The Nepalese envoy presented the certificates to each recipient before hundreds of Nepalese nationals living in Seoul, who had gathered there to celebrate the anniversary and watch a soccer tournament involving 18 teams.

Seongbuk District Mayor Kim Young-bae was also present to celebrate the anniversary.

Among the Koreans who received certificates of appreciation were the organizers of a three-day trade investment seminar, which took place in Seoul from May 15 to 17, according to Raja Ram Bartaula, the Nepalese Embassy's deputy head of mission.

"Ambassador Lama decided to recognize the Koreans for their bridge roles between Korea and Nepal," Bartaula said.

Choreographer Min Ji-young, who runs the Ari Art Company, also received a certificate. Dancers from Min's company performed during the seminar.
