The Korea Times and its sister paper the Hankook Ilbo will hold the 2019 Kor-Asia Forum on Nov. 22 at the Shilla Hotel, Seoul.
The forum, to be held ahead of the Nov. 25 to 27 ASEAN-Republic of Korea (ROK) Commemorative Summit, will focus on the theme "Korea-ASEAN for 30 years together: opening new era of common prosperity."
This year, the forum has a particular significance in that it marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of Korea's ties with ASEAN, Korea's biggest Asian trading partner after China. At a crucial juncture on the Korean Peninsula, the Moon Jae-in administration has sought to diversify its diplomacy by expanding ties and cooperation with ASEAN members. Dignitaries, including 10 incumbent and former heads of state, and experts will participate in the event.
The forum will start with congratulatory remarks from National Assembly Speaker Moon Hee-sang, as well as party leaders. Former United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon; former Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva; and former ASEAN Secretary-General Le Luong Minh, among other dignitaries, will take part in a special session. Key Korean officials, including Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha and Trade Minister Yoo Myung-hee as well as Lim Sung-nam, ambassador for ASEAN, will also take part in the event.
We look forward to seeing you at the forum, which aims to exchange constructive ideas and suggestions for promoting relations between Korea and ASEAN on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of ties.
