Korean ambassador to Finland dies

South Korean Ambassador to Finland Moon Duk-ho died on Tuesday afternoon at a hospital in Helsinki. He was 58.

The Korean Embassy in Helsinki said Wednesday Moon had been undergoing treatment for acute myeloid leukemia at Helsinki University Hospital.

He was carried to the hospital after collapsing suddenly on April 22.

“Funeral arrangements and procedures will be determined after consulting Moon's family and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Seoul,” an embassy official said.

Moon had been serving as the ambassador to Finland since November 2018.

After entering the Foreign Service in 1987, he worked in various diplomatic missions, taking him to the United States, France, Iraq and Vietnam.

He served as the ministry's top official for international security affairs before his posting to Finland.

He is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.
