The ASEAN-Korea Centre will host the International Conference on the ASEAN-Korea Partnership at Lotte Hotel Seoul on Aug.30.

Celebrating the 50th anniversary of ASEAN and the ASEAN-ROK Cultural Exchange Year, the event aims to highlight developments in ASEAN during the past 50 years and discuss prospects for the next 50 years, the organization said.

It is also designed to share insights on how relations between the two regions will further evolve.

“We hope that this conference will help us to take another step forward in promoting mutual benefits, encouraging cultural and people-to-people exchanges and thereby strengthening the genuine partnership between ASEAN and Korea,” ASEAN-Korea Centre Secretary General Kim Young-sun said.

High-ranking officials, including ASEAN Secretary General Le Luong Minh, Korea’s Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha and Philippines Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano are expected to speak at the event.

The conference is divided into two sessions: the 50th anniversary of ASEAN and prospects for ASEAN-Korea relations, and socio-cultural cooperation between ASEAN and Korea.

The ASEAN-Korea Centre is an intergovernmental organization established in 2009 to promote exchanges between Korea and the 10 ASEAN member states.
