Big Bang’s Tae-yang listed on iTunes chart

Big Bang member Tae-yang has topped the iTunes charts, showing some hope that idol groups are about more than just good looks and funky dancers.

Tae-yang's first solo album ``Solar'' hit third place on iTunes' Top R&B-Soul albums chart in the United States Friday, the first time for an Asian musician.

It also made second on the Canadian iTunes charts and fifth on the Japanese. It has been down from the top five ranks as of Friday, but the news that he made such an accomplishment made headlines here.

``It has showed us that Tae-yang's music can work in the American pop scene. The news is also meaningful because the album was recorded in Korean,'' the singer's agency YG Entertainment said.

Fans and music experts have showed their enthusiasm as well, especially when Tae-yang hasn't released any singles or held any promotion events in Canada and Japan.

``Tae-yang did everything he could do to produce a great album. He will continue to do that to satisfy listeners,'' the agency added.

``Solar'' was released this month and the track ``I Need a Girl'' has topped local charts both on and offline.

빅뱅 태양 아이튠즈 차트 진입

빅뱅의 멤버 태양이 아이튠즈 차트에서 1위에 진입하면서 아이돌 그룹이 단지 잘생긴 외모와 멋진 춤으로 승부하는 것은 아니라는 점을 보여줬다.

태양의 첫 솔로 엘범 "Solar"는 지난 금요일 미국 아이튠즈의 R&B-소울 엘범 차트에서 아시아 음반으로서는 처음으로 3위을 차지했다. "Solar"는 캐나다에서 2위, 일본에서는 5위를 차지하기도 했다. 금요일 이후로는 5위 이하로 떨어졌지만, 태양이 이룩한 성과는 이렇게 크게 뉴스가 될 정도이다.

YG 엔터테인먼트는 "이러한 성과는 태양의 음악이 미국 팝계에 통할 수 있다는 것을 보여줬습니다. 음반이 한국에서 녹음되었기 때문에 더 의미가 있는 겁니다" 라고 말했다.

팬들과 전문가들 또한 태양이 캐나다와 일본에서 싱글 앨범 발매 및 홍보를 하지 않았다는 점에 열의를 표했다.

관계자는 "태양은 좋은 음악을 만들기 위해 모든 것을 바쳤어요. 청취자들의 귀를 만족시키기 위해서 음악을 멈추지 않을 거에요" 라고 덧붙였다.

"Solar"는 이 달에 발매 되었고 타이틀곡 "I Need a Girl"은 국내 온/오프라인 음반 순위에서 1위를 달리고 있다.
