Some people prefer sex in a hotel room instead of their own bedroom, believing the venue arouses more excitement.
Ian Kerner, a licensed psychotherapist and sex counselor, has found the reason.
According to his study, the hotel room stimulates dopamine transmission in the brain, which plays an important role in sexual arousal and excitement.
He says the hotel's luxurious environment appeals to the five senses, which allows people to feel more sexual.
Sexual arousal occurs in the hotel as the environment turns off parts of the brain associated with anxiety and stress, he says.
"Shutting down or the pushing away of the anxiety, creating a boundary of anxiety and stressors of everyday life, is going to contribute to sexual arousal," he said.
