The sun is shining and all across Seoul people are on the streets enjoying the good weather. While strolling around the shops, the perfect way to revive yourself is with a scoop or two of gelato from Il Gelato.
The new Italian gelateria is in Sinsa, just off of the main Garosugil street. The sleek white shop is owned and run by Italian Michele Cavallaro and his Korean partner Jihyun Baik. They met while training at Gelato University in Italy and together set about bringing real Italian gelato to Seoul.
While Seoul is riddled with ice-cream shops, this one is the closest you will get to the traditional gelato you can find everywhere in Italy. The store has only been open a few weeks, but it is already proving a big hit with locals and expats.
The lovely outdoor seating area is perfect for those wanting to sit and relax while watching the world go by. The large parasol shades you from the sun's heat and stops your gelato from melting too quickly.
There are more than 20 flavors available, all freshly made. As well as traditional ones such as vanilla, cappuccino, strawberry and hazelnut, they also produce some more inventive Korean-inspired flavors like sesame, rice and wasabi. All are made with fresh ingredients and there are no additives or syrups, making for a true Italian-style experience.
