"We found Han, who was a choreography major with experience in Korean dance, contemporary dance and ballet, to be perfect for the role of ambassador of the festival," the event organizer Contemporary Dance Association of Korea announced in its press release on Thursday, introducing her as an actor known for her delicately expressive and sincere performance across a wide range of genres.
The 37-year-old actor majored in Korean dance at the Korea National University of Arts and studied contemporary dance and ballet before college. MODAFE naturally occupied a big part of her life during her middle and high school years.
"In contemporary dance, you can have your hair cut short, wear what you want to wear and freely express yourself, unhindered. So for me, MODAFE, the biggest contemporary dance festival in Korea, always remained as a place with the most wonderful people," Han said as she expressed gratitude to be given a chance to represent the event.
She added that Ahn Sung-su, whose choreography "feels like watching a well-structured, well-made film," and Ahn Eun-me, whose performances "incorporate distinctly Korean colors and narratives" are her favorite dancers.
"I think that the two define what contemporary dance is through Korean-styled movements and subject matter."
The two dancers will perform at the festival held at the ARKO Arts Theater, National Theater of Korea and Sogang University Mary Hall in Seoul under the theme "All About Contemporary Dance. This is, MODAFE!" The event will feature both legendary and rising artists in Korea's contemporary dance scene including Yook Wan-soon and Choi Chung-ja. National and regional dance organizations ― Korea National Dance Company of Korea, Korean National Ballet and Daegu Contemporary Dance Company ― will also make appearances.
