Actress Koh Hyun-jung, 40, was paid 55 million won per episode of SBS soap, Daemul or “President,” which was broadcast last year, making her the highest paid Korean actress in a drama production.

The previous record was the 48 million won that hallyu top star Choi Ji-woo received for the SBS drama, “Star’s Lover,” which aired in 2008.

An industry source said Tuesday that Koh received a total of 1.3 billion won for the series, including extra pay for outdoor shooting.

Ko’s previous record was the 35 million won she received per episode of the MBC drama “H.I.T.” which aired in 2007.

The 55 million won is three times higher than the limit of 15 million won set by Corea Drama Production Association (CODA) in 2007. At that time, 13 hallyu stars were excluded from the financial ceiling for their outstanding contribution to the successful export of soap operas to Japan, the source said.

The 13 stars were Bae Yong-joon, Jang Dong-gun, Lee Byung-hun, Song Seung-hun, Rain, Jung Woo-sung, Kwon Sang-woo, Won Bin, So Ji-sub, Choi Ji-woo, Lee Young-ae, Song Hye-kyo and Park Yong-ha. Koh was not on the list.

Complaints are prevailing among actors this time that the pay ceiling has no binding force due to the high pay for Koh, according to the industry.

According to a report in 2008, Song Seung-hun was paid 70 million won per appearance in "East of Eden," while Kwon Sang-woo and Park Shin-yang received 50 million won each per appearance in "Bad Love" and "The Painter of Wind," respectively.

Bae earned 250 million won per episode of MBC drama "Taewangsasingi” (The Four Guardian Gods of the King), the highest among all Korean actors and actresses.

고현정 출연료 '퀸'… '대물'서 13억 받아

배우 고현정 이 지난해 방송된 SBS 드라마 '대물'에서 여배우 드라마 출연료로는 역대 최고인 회당 5500만원을 받은 것으로 알려졌다. 이전의 최고 기록은 한류스타 최지우 가 SBS드라마 '스타의 연인'(2008년)에서 받은 회당 4800만원이었다.

방송계에 따르면, 고현정이 받은 출연료에는 야외 촬영수당 등이 포함돼 있으며 총액은 13억원인 것으로 전해졌다. 고현정 자신이 '대물' 이전에 받은 최고 출연료는 2007년 MBC 드라마 '히트'의 회당 3500만원이었다.
고현정이 받은 회당 5500만원은 2007년 드라마제작자협회가 배우들의 드라마 회당 출연료(70분 기준) 상한으로 정한 1500만원을 3배가 넘는 액수다. 협회는 당시 이 상한선에서 배용준 장동건 이병헌 송승헌 비( 정지훈 ) 정우성 권상우 원빈 소지섭 최지우 이영애 송혜교 박용하 등 한류스타 13명은 예외를 두기로 했다. 이들의 드라마 일본 수출 공로를 인정해 별도 인센티브를 인정한 것이다. 하지만 고현정은 한류스타로 분류되지 않았으므로 이 기준이 무용지물이 된 게 아니냐는 지적도 나온다.

2008년 발표된 한 보고서에 따르면 송승헌은 MBC '에덴의 동쪽' 때 회당 7000만원을, 권상우( KBS 2TV '못된 사랑')와 박신양 (SBS '바람의 화원')은 회당 5000만원을 받았다. 남녀 배우 통틀어 최고의 드라마 출연료 기록은 배용준이 MBC '태왕사신기' 출연 때 받은 회당 2억5000만원인 것으로 알려졌다.
