Park Yang-su, head of KCCI's SGI think tank |
He will head the KCCI Sustainable Growth Initiative (SGI) as its third leader. Park is a veteran economist, having worked at the Korean central bank for more than three decades. He studied economics at Korea University, and received a doctorate from the University of Illinois and retired from the BOK in May.
He started his career at the BOK in 1991 and is best known for his expertise in economic forecasting and macroeconomic research. Park worked as the chief of the BOK's Economic Research Institute before taking on the role as the new head of the KCCI think tank.
He expressed his vision to turn the KCCI SGI into the nation's representative private think tank, at a critical time when the economy faces growing uncertainties amid recession woes and unceasing signs of financial unrest here and abroad.
"We should overcome economic slowdown and risks from financial unrest, while at the same time finding solutions for new growth engines and realizing carbon neutrality," he said. "The KCCI SGI should be a guide for Korean companies amid the ongoing economic paradigm shift. The SGI will focus on producing reasonable policy suggestions after accurately analyzing the status quo of the economy."
Park also presented four major pillars for research of the organization, such as a vision for economic revitalization and solutions to enhance industrial competitiveness. He also underscored the dire need to establish a system to encourage more companies to fulfill carbon neutrality.
The SGI also reiterated its unwavering willingness to provide timely policy research results when the government and the business circle request them to do so. It also plans to generate more tangible outcomes by raising its awareness to the ordinary public via diverse channels encompassing seminars and YouTube.
