Park Jin-hei, former chief of Citibank Korea |
According to the non-life insurer's executive recommendation committee, Park will be able to help the company formulate a long-term ESG management strategy using his expertise in the area in addition to his corporate financing experience.
"Park has a high level of understanding in corporate management and finance and is widely expected to contribute tremendously to improving the overall expertise of our board of directors," an official from the committee said. "He is also serving as a deputy leader of Chung-Ang University's 2030 carbon neutrality forum. Park will be able to offer detailed advice on Samsung Fire's future direction in ESG management."
Park received a master's degree in economics at the London School of Economics after studying trade at Seoul National University. He spent most of his career at Citibank Korea. He is best known as the ex-chief of Citibank Korea where he served two terms for six years since October 2014.
He then worked as an outside director at Toss Bank and currently holds the same position at SK Innovation. Park will also accept a role as a member of Samsung Fire's internal audit committee after taking office as the new independent director in mid-March after winning approval at its upcoming shareholders' meeting.
Along with Park, the Samsung affiliate also nominated Kim So-young _ a former justice at the Supreme Court _ as another outside director of the company. Kim is now working at the nation's largest law firm, Kim & Chang.
