Shinhan Card CEO Lim Young-jin said Monday that the credit card company has to completely change its DNA in order to embrace the new digital era.
Celebrating its 11th anniversary at its headquarters in Seoul, the chief executive told his employees to practice thinking outside the box as it seeks to change its organizational culture to become a digital "platform-based company" under the "Deep Change" vision.
"If we refuse to change, we will be left behind. If we seek change, we will survive. But if we truly lead change, we will become a leader," Lim said at the event.
"We must come together under the vision to be the market's only leader and create the best working place over the next ten years."
By changing its culture, Shinhan Card will implement a flexible working hour system to help its employees stay focused on creating and implementing ideas, he added.
The company launched the "Shinhan PayFAN" platform for digital customers the same day as part of efforts to lead the way in which consumers settle their bills by providing services tailored to their individual needs.
It has also launched the "MySHOP" platform exclusively for small business owners who can use the company's data analytical service.
The company said it will seek to forge partnerships with startups and run internal innovation programs to maintain a digital leadership. To this end, it has been aggressively adopting big data and cloud computing technologies.
Shinhan Card, the country's No. 1 card company, has been aiming to reposition itself to become a digital company rather than a financial firm.
