Hana Financial Group made a donation ahead of Children's Day on May 5, to help child abuse victims.

According to Hana, it donated 800 million won ($635,000) on Tuesday to Save the Children, an international NGO dedicated to protecting the rights of children. The donation will be spent for victims of child abuse, to expand medical support and strengthen aid services. This includes emergency support including intensive care and operation of cultural experience programs for the child abuse victims living in shelters, provision of long-term mental healthcare treatment and renovation of shelters, which all aim at supporting the victims to recover from trauma and grow up healthy and safe.

Made as a part of Hana Power On Care, the financial group's support program for the underprivileged, the donation is especially meaningful as it marks 100 years since the introduction of Children's Day in Korea.

Hana Financial Group Chairman Ham Young-joo said that the support program should be a stepping stone for the healthy growth of the children. "We will continue paying close attention so that these children can return to their happy daily lives through psychological and emotional treatment," he said.

Supporting children has been a main concern of the group's social contribution programs, including opening 58 daycare centers around the country and helping single moms to stand on their own feet. It plans to build 42 additional daycare centers by 2023.
