Listen

Coupang, a Korean ecommerce platform, has opened a toy store specialized in educating STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics).

For a single category, the new theme store is the largest store in Korea, offering more than 390,000 STEAM education items at low prices.

STEAM toys were first developed in the United States as a creative teaching framework integrating the five disciplines, and arts later joined as a new discipline. As the latest educational trend, the toys use fun games to convey knowledge for diverse age groups that are practical in daily settings. The educational toys also boost children’s creativity by enabling flexible thinking.

“The STEAM initiative has been widely accepted as a new teaching method to nurture talents for future,” Lee Byeong-hee, the head of Baby category in Coupang, said.

“Customers can take advantage of the opening promotion and shop for top educational toys from various brands at affordable prices.”

A variety of the world’s popular STEAM items such as art supplies, blocks, remote control toys including drones, board games and instructive toys are all for sale at the company’s toy store. The ecommerce platform also provides categories for age groups and six different disciplines for the convenience of customers, helping them to find suitable items for their children.

One of the flagship items is the LEGO Boost 17101 which has been showcased at the Consumer Electronics Show 2017. The toolbox offers an opportunity for children to build a robot, cat or a car by themselves. Moreover, the objects built by children are designed to move through simple programming.

Dash & Dot, an educational coding robot is another item expected to draw customers’ attention as children can learn to code by playing with the toy.

Until March 4, 2018, Coupang will hold a sales promotion event that offers up to a 10 percent discount on the STEAM toys marked with the Rocket Delivery tag.
