Thanks to the global popularity of K-pop, the number of idol groups in Korea is increasing in leaps and bounds so it is more challenging than ever to stand out from the crowd.
The latest is a boy band, only about two weeks old, which looks ready to hit the ground running.
D-CRUNCH has nine members, with each possessing distinctive feature ― “hot guy,” “cute boy,” “intelligent fool,” and so on.
The name is short for “Diamond Crunch” ― members aim to produce powerful gigs that can virtually crunch the hardest object on earth, a diamond.
Hyunoh, Jungseung, Dylan, Hyunwook, Hyunwoo, Chanyoung, Hyunho, Minhyuk and O.V have just released their first album “0806,” with the lead track “PALACE.”
Watch:
O.V, one of the two leaders, told The Korea Times that the group was responsible for songwriting, choreography and overall production.
“It took about two months to wrap up the entire process,” he said. “Two months may sound short, but we squeezed all we can to achieve the best quality possible.”
“People may play down our music because we are young and inexperienced. But all our members are serious about it, and will continue to grow until we are recognized as artists.”

Four of the nine members have “similar” names that begin with “Hyun” ― Hyunwook, Hyunoh, Hyunwoo and Hyunho. Together, they are dubbed “H4.”
“We considered using stage names but we decided not to do so,” said Hyunwook. “We thought it was kind of destiny to have such similar names in a group.”
He added: “We meet every Friday to polish our teamwork. Our members have diverse backgrounds, and have been enjoying different lifestyles. So we talk a lot to understand each other and take comments from others positively.”
“Now we are on music shows and have fans who give us love and support,” said vocalist Hyunoh. “All this is rewarding for us ― we are overjoyed.”
