K-pop group JUST B has returned with their new album, "NANUGI," following an 11-month hiatus. Describing this release as just "the tip of the iceberg," the group is anticipating rave responses from fans.

The six-member group, comprised of Geonu, Bain, Lim Jimin, JM, DY and Sangwoo, shared the album's theme and their journey during a lively press interview at a cafe near Seoul Forest, Sept. 27.

Member DY revealed, "We began crafting this album back in November last year. Our preparations for this album unfolded slowly but significantly. Unlike our previous approach of rapid album releases, this time we aimed to present something more substantial, and I believe we have achieved that through this album."

"The album's main track, 'MEDUSA,' features a punk rock genre and conveys a powerful message. It revolves around the idea of restoring the world to its pristine state, in contrast to Medusa, who lost her original appearance and became a monster," the group's leader Lim said.

This album is also unique in that it carries the theme of "ecoverse," which delves into environmental concerns.

"Much like the title 'NANUGI,' a Korean word for division, this album encapsulates the message that 'happiness can be experienced through the act of sharing,'" Bain said.

The album showcases self-composed tracks brimming with songwriting talent. Among the seven tracks, four have been penned and composed by the group members themselves.

DY takes credit for "Youth" and "Camellia," the latter released earlier this year, while Bain has contributed both the lyrics and music for "Coming Home."

Geonu, who played a key role in the album's choreography, said, "Our roles in both music and choreography have grown significantly. Our voices come through more distinctly compared to our last album, and our emotions feel genuinely authentic."

He added, "As time has passed and our journey continues to evolve, we've naturally found a desire to explore more aspects of our performance."

The members also discussed the extended hiatus, describing it as a period of growth and bonding.

"The 11-month hiatus was tough as we yearned to share new music with our fans sooner, but it was a precious time for us. We grew even closer as a group, solidifying our bond as a family and contemplating our future goals and directions. Taking a break wasn't difficult in that sense," DY said.

Reflecting on the three-year journey since their debut, the group expressed gratitude for the stages they've shared with their fans.

"Three years ago, we were driven by reckless ambition, but now we've learned the value of teamwork, music and connecting with our fans," DY said, reminiscing about their debut.

Bain also emphasized their new goal as a group in their third year, saying, "While there's pressure for achievements, we want to pursue growth with good music and meaningful messages, rather than just pursuing success."

The members shared their deep affection for their fandom, "Only B." Bain praised their fans for their eloquence, saying, "Our fans have a remarkable way with words, and they constantly inspire us."

JM added, "The fan letters we receive are incredibly supportive and strengthen our connection with them. One time, I received a fan letter that read 'May our bond grow layer by layer into a thick pastry,' and that to me, was unforgettable."

DY expressed determination to repay fans for their unconditional love.

"I believe it's our responsibility to put in the effort to give back to our fans, who shower us with unconditional love. As an artist, I see repaying our fans as delivering heartfelt musical performances, and I intend to continue connecting with them through self-composed songs," DY said.

Their ultimate aspiration is to share a self-produced album with international audiences.

"Our ultimate goal is to oversee the production of all our songs," underlining their ambition, "We aim to create opportunities grounded in the stories we can tell through our experiences," JM said.

DY noted that what JUST B strives for is recognition as musicians.

"For those encountering our music for the first time, I hope this album serves as a glimpse of what's yet to come, just like the tip of an iceberg," DY said. "Our mission is to bring forth the iceberg we've crafted, with more songs bearing our voices. We're dedicated to creating a substantial musical continent."
