Actor and singer Kim Seol-hyun, who is also known as Seolhyun from K-pop girl group AOA, spoke about her role as police officer Do Ah-hee in tvN's upcoming series, “The Killer's Shopping List.”

“I was drawn to the character of Do Ah-hee as she is a professional at her job and has the admirable objective of watching over the town and protecting her boyfriend Ahn Dae-seong,” Kim said.

Based on the mystery novel of the same name by writer Kang Ji-young, the whodunit comedy series follows a mysterious murder case that occurs near a store called MS Mart.

Ahn Dae-sung (Lee Kwang-soo), the son of the market's owner, works as a part-time cashier. He excels at his job as he has an excellent memory and is good with numbers.

When one of the store's receipts shows up at the crime scene of the murder, he teams up with his mom and his girlfriend, Do Ah-hee (Kim), to solve the crime using his skills.

The series will be directed by filmmaker Lee Eon-hee, who also oversaw the comedy detective film, "The Accidental Detective 2: In Action” (2018), and is scripted by Han Ji-wan, whose previous work includes the mystery series, "The Ghost Detective” (2018).

Kim said that the series' plot interested her enough to want to take part in this series.

“I thought the story of tracing the clues to the murderer with a receipt was interesting,” she said.

She plays a passionate police officer who is straightforward, bold and doesn't allow injustice. Ah-hee has been with Dae-sung for about 20 years.

The actress shared that she has been training for action scenes for this series.

“I prepare myself for general action sequences. In particular, I started learning boxing for this project and it was a fun experience,” she said.

Kim added that although she shares some of the traits of her character, she was drawn to how the character is also different from her.

“Ah-hee and I share about 50 percent in regards to similarities. We are similar in that we are both honest and lovely. But her personality of being blunt and not holding things back is different from me,” she said. “And I thought that because of that side to her, which I don't have, made her quite appealing to me.”

“The Killer's Shopping List” is scheduled to go on air at 10:30 p.m. on April 27.
