The digitally recreated royal ceremony, known as "jinharye," which originally took place in 1887 during the latter days of the 1392-1910 Joseon Kingdom to celebrate the 80th birthday of Grand Royal Dowager Queen Sinjeong (1808-90), is unveiled at Gyeongbok Palace in central Seoul, Tuesday. This historical event, reconstructed via augmented reality (AR) technology, will be open for the public to experience through the mobile app, Heriverse, starting from Wednesday. Developed by the Cultural Heritage Administration in collaboration with the Seoul Metropolitan Government, Woomi Hope Foundation and Cheil Worldwide, the project marks the first instance of a court ritual that has been virtually restored and made accessible on-site at the palace.
