OCN's hit series "The Uncanny Counter" successfully wrapped its first season Sunday, and it has been confirmed the show will return for a second season.

The finale of the first season scored the network's highest viewership rating of all time at 11 percent, surpassing the previous record set by its Jan. 10 episode ― 10.6 percent.

After the success of the series, the network decided to renew it for a second one. "We have decided to produce 'The Uncanny Counter' season two," it told local media outlets Monday. "We are still working out the details, including the timeline of the filming and broadcasting schedule."

It added that it is "in talks" with the cast of the first season, including the lead Cho Byeong-kyu, and Yoo Jun-sang, Kim Se-jeong and Yeom Hye-ran.

The fantasy action series, based on Jang Yi's web-comics "Amazing Rumor," follows teenager So-mun (Cho) who joins a group of "counters," exorcists with special abilities, to fight off evil spirits.

"When I first started filming this series, I hoped that it would offer a sense of escape to viewers going through struggles (from the pandemic)," Cho said through his agency HB Entertainment Monday. "Though I'm not perfect, I'm grateful that I could help you through these tough times."

Mentioning the pressure he had in taking his first lead role, Jo thanked the production staff and fellow actors for "pulling me though" the series.

Actress Kim, who played one of the counters Do Ha-na, also expressed gratitude to the viewers through her agency Jellyfish Entertainment Sunday.

"I started to dream again because of The Uncanny Counter. I became able to smile sincerely and be myself under any circumstances," she said.

"While I was working on the series, I changed my cell phone background to a picture of the counters with the phrase 'Try your best at all times, be thankful for what's given, be true to things you face, do not fear but be aware,'" Kim added. "I am truly thankful for my fellow actors who helped me be a better version of myself."
