Fifty Fifty's agency has opened up about the cancellation of producing a music video for the girl group's song "Barbie Dreams" which features in the soundtrack of the soon-to-be-released film "Barbie."
On Tuesday, a representative from ATTRAKT told the Hankook Ilbo, "It is true that Fifty Fifty hasn't filmed the music video for the new "Barbie" film's soundtrack. Aran was ill and underwent surgery recently, so we weren't able to work out a schedule given her two-month timetable for recovery."
Fifty Fifty has been on break since May as Aran continues to recover from her operation. Regardless, an announcement from ATTRAKT in late May that Fifty Fifty would be releasing the track "Barbie Dreams" for the popular doll-themed movie had many fans buzzing over the group's return.
However, plans for the music video have all but fallen apart following revelations of Fifty Fifty's ongoing legal battle with their agency. It all began with a dispute between ATTRAKT and one of their production contractors, which has been accused of trying to poach Fifty Fifty members on behalf of a competing record label. Fifty Fifty has since filed a court injunction to terminate the members' exclusive contract with the agency.
When asked if the planned "Barbie Dreams" music video could ever see the light of day, the ATTRAKT representative declined to comment specifically.
The forthcoming comedy film tells the story of Barbie and Ken, living in seemingly perfect Barbie Land, who find themselves traversing a portal to the real world and living among humans. The film is scheduled to be released in Korea next month.
