The director and writer of JTBC's upcoming series, "The Good Bad Mother," said the series will bring a heartwarming story about a mother and son.
The new dramedy series, set to premiere on April 26, will revolve around single mom and pig farm owner, Jin Young-soon (Ra Mi-ran), and her son Choi Kang-ho (Lee Do-hyun). Hoping for her son to have a better life, she is strict, raising him to be a cold-hearted prosecutor.
But when a tragic accident leaves Choi with the mind of a child, he is forced to move back with his mother, leading the two to go on a journey to recover their relationship.
The series' writer, Bae Se-young, who scripted the 2019 hit comedy film "Extreme Job," said she came up with the story's idea from the weaning process of piglets.
"I learned that when pigs give birth, they can only spend 28 days together. They have to teach their piglets before they get separated," she said in the written interview released by the network, Thursday. "So as people. All mothers have to leave their children behind as humans die at one point. So this series started with a question 'What kind of life and ways of living should we teach our children before we leave this world.'"

The series is directed by Sim Na-yeon, whose previous work includes the teen romance series "Moment of Eighteen" (2019). The director noted that this series will be like a fairytale story.
"(The series) combines human drama with the comedy genre, which is also hard. So I tried not to go overboard and use overwhelming techniques. It was more like showing sincere affection for the story. I focused on making the fairytale-like story of Young-soon and Kang-ho, and the lovely characters around them feel more convincing to the viewers."
The creators said that the series is relatable and has a message about family love as its takeaway.
"I wanted to tell a story that both the children and parents can relate to by depicting different characters. It seems like an everyday story on the surface but the depth of the emotions each character feels and their weight of life is heavy," the writer said.
The director added that she hopes the series will lead people to reflect on their own relationship with family.
"For moms, it's their first time as a mom and they can't know everything. So they always end up being a 'bad mom' to their children … I hope after watching the series it would have given them time to understand their mother or children and reflect on themselves," she said.
