The creators of Netflix's new survival show "Siren: Survive the Island" said it will center around women with strong physiques.

"The three keywords that I personally like about sports comics are 'friendship, effort and victory.' It always resonates with me to see (characters) being true to what they do, taking a leap of faith and achieving their desire," producer Lee Eun-kyung said in a written interview through the streaming platform. "But I've realized that there are not many sports comics with female protagonists. So I wanted to create a strong female saga that had 'friendship, effort, and victory.'"

The 10-part competition show, set to premiere on May 30, invites 24 female participants, divided into six teams based on their profession ― police officers, firefighters, bodyguards, soldiers, athletes and stuntwomen. They are taken to a remote island to compete against one another for survival until only the strongest team remains.

The show's writer, Chae Jin-ah, noted that competing with each other in the wild will bring out the participants' professional backgrounds.

"The participants fight for survival, being isolated on an island, and show off their capability by overcoming different obstacles set by real nature. In this nature within the island, the participants not only compete with each other but also come in solidarity to live under such circumstances," she said.

"(Their profession) is to live and die to protect something. So we tried to capture that moment of them protecting something for each profession."

Lee added the participants took part in the show with a strong sense of ethics and pride in their work.

"There's a police officer who says her body would decompose with all the hamburgers she ate during a stakeout; a firefighter who always lives with the regret of not responding to a fire more quickly; a bodyguard who says the best way to stop a bullet is to be hit rather than dodging it; a stuntwoman who doesn't consider a broken rib an injury; a soldier who always lives in a state of war; and an athlete who can climb a rope in her sleep," she said. "We wanted to bring their professionalism to the show."

Chae added that survival will highlight each group's teamwork throughout the show.

"We felt it would be more meaningful for the individuals with the same ethics to team up together and work together to win based on their companionship."

The first part of the show will premiere on May 30 and the second part will be released the following week.
