"Street Girls Fighter," a spinoff of Mnet's popular female dance survival show, "Street Woman Fighter," is scheduled to hit the air later this year.
The upcoming program will feature a competition among female dance crews composed of only teenagers. The leaders and the members of eight dance crews from "Street Woman Fighter" ― PROWDMON, Coca N Butter, HOOK, LACHICA, HOLYBANG, WANT, WAYB and YGX ― will appear as the judges.
"To thank the viewers who have been passionately supporting Street Woman Fighter, we came to launch its spinoff," Kwon Young-chan, chief producer of both programs, said in a statement Thursday. "For our new show, we will try to discover teens with a knack for dancing, who are part of the MZ generation that enjoys dancing via diverse platforms such as YouTube."
MZ generation refers to people born between 1980 and 2010.
As the producer said, "Street Woman Fighter," which premiered on Aug. 24, has been generating a lot of buzz. The YouTube videos of the program have accumulated 200 million views in total as of Oct. 2 and the dancers are seeing a remarkable growth in the number of followers on their social media accounts. WAYB's Noze, for instance, has more than 190 million followers on her Instagram.
"When the production team first told us that it wanted to build fan bases for dancers, I thought it was nonsense," HOLYBANG's leader Honey J said. "But now, I am surprised to see so many people saying they are our fans… Thanks to Street Woman Fighter, more people recognize us and look for us. I am truly thankful."
"Street Girls Fighter" will recruit participants in October and air its first episode later this year. More details about the program will soon be announced.
