The song “Nella Fantasia” touched the hearts of viewers when the cast of the popular television show “Qualifications of a Man” (KBS) sang it as a challenge to work together as a choir and compete in a singing contest not so long ago. The song became a big hit among viewers and now comes the chance for music-lovers to watch the song be performed by one of the most celebrated popera artists in the world: Sarah Brightman.
The 50-year-old English singer is coming to Korea for the third time, and is expected to excite fans once again with her impeccable vocals and song choices.
Fans may recall the past two concerts; “Harem” in 2004 and in “Symphony” 2009. They were extravagant performances with more of a “popera” touch, but the upcoming show will be from a more traditional classical standpoint.
Titled “Sarah Brightman — In Concert with Orchestra,” Brightman will sing song alongside the Prime Philharmonic Orchestra.
The lineup is impressive indeed, which will surely satisfy classical fans, and yet also introduce music lovers to a whole new world of drama, fantastic stage settings and, of course, stunning vocals.
From “The Phantom of the Opera” from the famous musical, “Nessun Dorma” from the opera “Turandot” to classical pop tunes such as “Time to Say Goodbye,” the numbers are expected to show the classical side of the glamorous Brightman, something she has not yet shown her Korean fans.
Brightman’s music is described as classical crossover and operatic pop. She started her music career at the age of 11, when she started learning music and singing professionally. At the age of 13, only two years after she started music, she won a role in the musical “I and Albert.”
In 1978, Brightman released her first album “I Lost My Heart to a Starship Trooper,” which sold over 500,000 copies and led her to the top of her game. She was only 18 years old.
In the 1980s, the artist began appearing in musical productions, including “Cats,” “The Phantom of the Opera,” “The Merry Widow” and “Aspects of Love.”
Becoming one of the biggest stars in the musical scene, Brightman once again turned her attention to her solo career in the 1990s. Popera albums such as “Timeless” (1997), Eden” (1998), “La Luna” (2000) and “Harem” (2003) became big hits among both classical and pop music fans.
Along with her recording projects, she also put her musical background to good use, holding extravagant and stylish shows and world tours over the years. In 2008, after a five-year hiatus, the singer returned to the stage with another new album “Symphony,”starting a whole new project that included an orchestra and more classical tunes.
