Actor Seo In-guk, who played the lead character in KBS' comedy crime series "Cafe Minamdang," has expressed gratitude to viewers, saying the drama was a meaningful challenge in his acting career.
The series ended on Tuesday on a good note, scoring its highest viewership rating of 5.7 percent with its final episode.
"During the eight months that I lived as Nam Han-jun (the lead character) in the series, I've found a new side of myself and had a blissful time. 'Cafe Minamdang' was a new experience and challenge, but I'm truly thankful that many people showed love," the actor said through the network.
"'Cafe Minamdang' will remain as a series that I can always look back on and reminisce about how fun it was. I hope you can keep a part of Han-jun and all the characters in your heart to remember it for a long time."
The 18-part series, based on the web novel of the same name, revolves around a former criminal profiler, Nam, who now pretends to be a shaman. Using his good looks and persuasion skills, he runs a suspicious cafe named Minamdang and provides services to its rich customers while scamming them.
When his path crosses enthusiastic detective Han Jae-hui (Oh Yeon-seo), he joins forces with her, along with people at the cafe ― ex-detective Kong Su-cheol (Kwak Si-yang) and elite hacker Nam Hye-jun (Kang Mi-na) ― to solve a mystery case and catch a serial killer.

Oh, who played the homicide detective, said Han Jae-hui was a character with a lot of pain so she was drawn to the character from the beginning. "I thank viewers for watching us until the end. I hope 'Cafe Minamdang' will be remembered as a delightful, refreshing series that makes you want to watch it every hot summer," she said through her agency, StoryJCompany.
Actress Kang, who played Han-jun's sister and a genius hacker, said that working on this series has taught her how to go beyond her boundaries.
"I was able to learn a lot from working side by side with experienced co-stars. It feels like such a great environment for filming allowed me to break out of the box that made me hesitate and held me back," she said through her agency, Jellyfish Entertainment. "This series is a meaningful piece as it helped me grow to take another step forward."
Adding that working on the series has made her more eager to become a better actor, Kang said she hopes to widen her acting abilities.
"While working on this series, my thought was changed: Now, I would love to hear 'she's good at acting,' rather than 'she is okay.' I want to become an actor with a strong foundation," she said.
"I want to challenge myself in as many roles I can get. I really wish to show diverse sides, as I have more to show than what I've shown so far. So, taking on the challenge will be very interesting."
