Actress Seo Hyun-jin said that her recent role as determined lawyer Oh Soo-jae in SBS' legal romance series, "Why Her," led her to reflect on herself.
"I learned more about working on the set and about me as a person through this series," Seo said in an interview through her agency, Management Soop, Sunday, a day after the series ended. "This particular work had a long production time and required me to put energy into various aspects of it. It feels like the time went by so fast so I'm rather sad (that it's over)."
Led by Park Soo-jin, who directed the romance series, "The Hymn of Death," (2018) the 16-part series revolves around the youngest partner at Korea's top law firm, Oh Soo-jae, who is talented and is on her way to becoming the firm's best attorney, driven by a relentless desire to win.
However, one day, she takes on a case that causes an unexpected turn, making all of her past hard work crumble and eventually resulting in her getting demoted at work. She takes a job lecturing at a local law school to win back her position. But she finds a different meaning in life after she meets a group of law students, including Gong Chan (Hwang In-youp), and joins hands to take down corrupt law firm CEO Choi Tae-guk (Heo Jun-ho) and seek justice.
The series, which kicked off with a 6-percent viewership rating on June 3, wrapped up with its highest rating of 10.7 percent on Saturday.
Seo said she has yet to grasp the popularity of the series. "I haven't had a chance to be out to places where I can actually feel (the series' popularity). But when people around me have asked about the locations where we filmed scenes, I felt that a lot of people are watching it, so I am thankful," she said.
Seo's character, Soo-jae, is a highly driven and tense person who is eager to chase after success. However, as the story develops, she faces a series of events that pit her against the enormously powerful law firm CEO, Tae-guk.
The actress expressed that working with veteran actors like Heo and Kim Chang-wan, who played the law school's dean, was a valuable experience.
"It was such an honor to work with Heo and Kim. There's always something that you can learn from them, like the way you should treat acting," she said.
As to her goal as an actor, she added: "Less thinking and talking, but a lot of contemplating. Be flexible with ideas and always do so with wit. Now that I've said it, it feels very difficult."
