KBS will release drama series 'If You Wish Upon Me,' legal romance series 'The Law Cafe'

August will see the premieres of an array of different genre series, from legal to period comedy dramas.
KBS is set to roll out the new legal romance series, "The Law Cafe," starring actor and singer Lee Seung-gi, who is returning from his powerful role as a psychopath in last year's mystery crime series, "Mouse.
Based on the web novel of the same name, the new series, set to premiere on Aug. 29, revolves around two friends of 17 years, Kim Jeong-ho (Lee) and Kim Yu-ri (Lee Se-young), who run a combination law firm/cafe.
Jeong-ho used to be a gifted prosecutor but is now a building owner. He joins hands with ferociously passionate lawyer Yu-ri to help clients with legal services through the cafe and law firm they run.
The series is directed by Lee Eun-jin, who helmed the 2010 hit drama series, "Bread, Love and Dreams," and the 2016 legal series, "My Lawyer, Mr. Jo," and is written by scriptwriter Im Ji-eun.
Actors Ji Chang-wook and Sung Dong-il will be on KBS' other heartfelt drama series, "If You Wish Upon Me," which will go on air Aug. 10.
The drama series is directed by Kim Yong-wan, who is known for leading the 2020 mystery series, "The Cursed." It follows the tough life of a man named Yoon Gyeo-rae (Ji), who grows up at an orphanage and goes in and out of juvenile detention centers.
He stays detached from his life as he struggles to have a normal one. After an incident leads him to volunteer at a hospice, he comes across patients and other people at the facility, including volunteer team leader Kang Tae-shik (Sung) and energetic nurse Seo Yeon-joo (Choi Soo-young), who offer new meaning for his life.
The series is scripted by Cho Ryeong-soo, who took part in writing the heartfelt 2017 comedy film, "I Can Speak."

Netflix will also be debuting a new original series on Aug. 12. The crime thriller series, "A Model Family," unfolds the story of cash-strapped professor Dong-ha (Jung Woo), who is facing a divorce and going bankrupt.
One day, he unwittingly takes money he found on a dead body, which drags him into a drug cartel to work as a drug courier.
The series is led by Kim Jin-woo, who helmed season 2 of Netflix's "Love Alarm," and scripted by Lee Jae-gon, who wrote the 2011 crime series, "Ten."
TvN's new period comedy series, "Poong, the Joseon Psychiatrist," is set to premiere on Aug. 1, starring actors Kim Min-jae, Kim Hyang-gi and Kim Sang-kyung.
The period medical romance series revolves around skilled physician Yoo Se-poong (Kim Min-jae), who is known for his medical ability and has worked for the royal family. But when a medical incident leads his life to fall apart, he encounters medicinal practitioner Kye Ji-han (Kim Sang-kyung) and widowed psychiatrist Seo Eun-woo (Kim Hyang-gi) in a small but beautiful village and joins them in treating patients' physical and mental health.
The series is led by Park Won-gook, whose previous work includes the 2017 period drama, "The Emperor: Owner of the Mask," and is co-scripted by newcomers Park Seul-gi, Choi Min-ho and Lee Bom.
