WSG Wannabe, an all-female project group created on MBC's reality show, "Hangout with Yoo," is making waves with its performance of "Wonderful Love" ― the 2017 release by K-pop act Momoland.
After the white-clad members performed the bubbly song for the first time in the latest episode of the reality show on Saturday, "Wonderful Love" ranked first on the music streaming platform Bug's real-time chart. The video featuring the group's performance has also exceeded 1 million views on YouTube as of Sunday.
According to Nielsen Korea, "Hangout with Yoo" scored a 7.8 percent viewership rating nationwide, while recording a 4.6 percent among viewers aged between 20 and 49. It was the most viewed Saturday program among viewers of this age bracket.
WSG Wannabe consists of 12 celebrities, including singer-actress Yoon Eun-hye and actress Jung Ji-so, who appeared in the 2019 Oscar-winning movie, "Parasite." Soyeon of K-pop girl band Laboum, Jo Hyun-ah of R&B singer-songwriter group Urban Zakapa and Lee Bo-ram, the former member of the now-defunct female act SeeYa, are also part of WSG Wannabe.
"I think this is my last chance," Lee said during the show. "I will do my best to make my name known to the public this time. I also want to pay my dues."
WSG Wannabe is the female version of MSG Wannabe, an all-male act that was also formed by comedian Yoo Jae-suk ― the host of "Hangout with Yoo" ― in 2021. It was made to bring more diversity to the Korean music scene, as vocal groups are rarely seen these days.
MSG Wannabe took the top spots on multiple music streaming charts with its retro-tinged tracks, "Foolish Love" and "Only You." The act was named SG Wannabe, a popular vocal group that basked in popularity in the mid-2000s with ballads such as "Timeless" (2004).
