Tving's new original series, "Bargain," starring actors Jun Jong-seo of the crime series, "Money Heist: Korea," and Jin Seon-kyu of the hit comedy film, "Extreme Job," is set to release on Oct. 28.
The crime-thriller series is an adaptation of director Lee Chung-hyun's award-winning short film of the same name in 2015, about a school girl and a man bargaining for prostitution.
Director Jeon Woo-sung, who was part of the production team of the original short film, picked up the story and developed it into a six-part series.
"It did worry me and put a sense of pressure to expand the story from the short film," the director said during an online press conference for the series, Monday.
"I felt that the series can make use of the one-take cinematography technique that makes it stand out. And I tried to tell a story that would make us think about the meanings of bargaining and lies."
The series picks up on the film's plot, in which the girl, Park Joo-young (Jun Jong-seo), lures Noh Hyung-soo (Jin) to a motel to solicit him for prostitution, but actually intends to harvest and sell his organs. As she negotiates the sale of the organs, a massive earthquake hits the town, trapping them inside the building. With no one to trust, they must find a way to survive.
The director shared that he had Jin on his mind for the character from the very beginning of the series' development.
"In the early stage…Jin's name came up and I was thrilled the moment I heard his name, because he was such a good fit. For the first draft (of the script), I wrote it with Jin on my mind," he said.
Jin, who said he was a big fan of the original film, said that he was excited to join the project and work through massive one-take scenes with the director.
"I was a really huge fan of the short film 'Bargain.' And the fact that the series was an extended version of it was interesting. Also, I was drawn to how it is filmed with a one-take technique like a play," he said.
He said that working on this series was nothing like his previous works.
"In general, the scenes were five minutes to 15 minutes in one take. So the actors needed the extra practice," he said. "But when we get an okay for the scene, there was an enormous satisfaction that I've never felt anywhere else."
Jun Jong-seo, who plays the cunning organ trader, also shared that the long-take filming technique also got her interested in joining the project.
"I have been wanting to work with director Jun. I felt that I can learn a lot from the process of filming scenes with long, one-take techniques," she said.
