Tiffany of group Girls' Generation released her first solo mini-album in her nine year career "I Just Wanna Dance" at midnight Tuesday.
Tiffany calls the album, which consists of six tracks, of her own style music.
"People could wonder why I've released a dance album, but I am a person with a lot of enthusiasm and I like dancing," said Tiffany during a press conference at SM Town in Coex, southern Seoul. "I put more effort into music rather than visual work or performance."
The title track is a synthesizer backed song with a 1980s retro sound mixed with a medium-tempo electronic pop genre produced by Timothy ‘Bos' Bullock and written by MonoTree.
Nine hours after the album was released, the song topped six online music charts, including Naver Music, Genie, Mnet, Olleh Music, Bugs and Soribada.
Tiffany picked her favorite track as "What Do I Do," which she participated in producing for the first time and has lyrics written by her bandmate Sooyoung.
"I am proud that my song passed the agency's strict system to make it on the album. It is even more meaningful since Sooyoung wrote the lyrics for me," she said. "I wanted to make a popular melody that can catch the audience's ear at once."
Other songs include American pop tune"Talk," R&B track "Fool," the acoustic-based bossa nova "Once in a Lifetime" and "Yellow Light."
In her music, the singer tried to avoid the typical S.M. Entertainment style of lyrics that sing about an ideal world. She shot her album images and music video at her home in Los Angeles with minimal makeup to emphasize naturalness.
"Like the title suggests, my music helps people to forget about a stressful day and to dance all night," Tiffany said.
The album is the second by a Girls' Generation member after Taeyeon's "I" was released last October. Taeyeon won "Best Female Artist" at the 17th Mnet Asian Music Awards that year, and Tiffany said she felt burdened debuting as a solo artist following her band's leader.
"Taeyeon and I have been best friends for 12 years. Although we have similar music taste, we express them differently. I received a lot of advice from her while preparing my album," Tiffany said.
The Korean-American singer was born in San Francisco, Calif., and grew up in Diamond Bar until she auditioned for S.M. Entertainment's Starlight Casting System to debut as a member of Girls' Generation in 2007. In 2012 she formed a subgroup "Girls' Generation-TaeTiSeo" with Taeyeon and Seohyun and released the albums "Twinkle" and "Holler" in 2014.
Tiffany will begin her solo career today with Mnet's TV music series "M Countdown" and appear on MBC's "Show! Music Core" and SBS's "Inkigayo"
