"I lived in Jeju for a couple of years and fell in love with the island ― not just with the beautiful landscape but with its unique culture that encourages communal life," she said in a recent written interview with The Korea Times.
Noh also spoke about bringing together several individual stories to her latest drama. "I don't remember when exactly, but at some point, writing a story with two lead characters no longer interested me. We are the heroes of our own story, aren't we? I didn't want to treat some characters as less significant," she said.
The tvN series, starring Lee Byung-hun, Shin Min-a, Han Ji-min, Kim Woo-bin, Kim Hye-ja and Cha Seung-won, follows a group of people in a seaside town going through ups and downs in their lives. They appear as neighbors, friends and family members of one another.
"I craved a new genre, new storyline, new perspective, and as a result, chose to go with the omnibus style," Noh said, referring to a film consisting of shorter films.
On the star-studded cast, she said, "Any writer would want to work with such actors. I'm grateful that they all agreed to take part in the project. My only concern was to give them the roles they have never played before, so that they can show their unseen sides to the viewers."
The drama is directed by Kim Kyu-tae, who led the hit 2016 fantasy period series, "Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo."
The Saturday-Sunday series "Our Blues" will premiere on tvN April 9 at 9:10 p.m.
