Actor Kwon Sang-woo said Monday his role in "Accidental Detective" came most naturally, being a father in real life as he is in the upcoming comedy thriller.

"The scenario and I were a match made in heaven," he told reporters at a press conference Monday. "As a father of two myself, I couldn't think of any other actor my age who could do a better job than I could."

Directed by Kim Jeong-hoon, the film follows Kang Dae-man (Kwon), an owner of a comic book cafe and a power blogger, who wants to become a police officer but has been deemed physically unfit for the job.

Kang resorts to what he considers to be the next best thing, which is to regularly check in on local police stations to give unsolicited advice to detectives -- much to the chagrin of both his wife and the detectives.

The movie really begins when he starts to dabble in an unofficial police probe into a closed murder case for which his friend, a detective, is a key suspect.

Kang believes his friend has been framed and together with his unwilling companion -- No Tae-soo (Sung Dong-il), a veteran detective who has been demoted for his ill temper -- rehashes the case for further inspection.

The script was chosen out of nearly 600 submitted for a contest organized by a local newspaper, the film's publicist Youngfine said.

Kwon, who has two children with actress Son Tae-young, said he had so much fun on set he had to drag his feet to go home after each film shoot.

"I didn't get the usual jitters I get on the set while filming 'Accidental Detective,'" he said. "Sometimes I had to play the role of a typical father. And feeding a toddler and changing diapers is my second nature."

Kwon said he even enjoyed the numerous scenes in which he is beaten by Sung.

"I felt thrilled being beaten," he said, to which the press burst into laughter. "I wanted to amuse the audience. There was even a time when I'd been punched so much I felt dizzy afterward. But I didn't mind."

"Accidental Detective" is Kwon's first comedy since 2006. Renowned for his muscular form, Kwon apparently had to actively bridge the gap between his masculine image with the droll character of Kang.

"There's a scene where Kang gives a shoulder massage to his wife. And Kwon was told not to press too hard because doing so would expose his muscles," Sung said.

"Accidental Detective" vies to top the box office during the Chuseok holiday, Korea's major harvest festival, as the only comedy film opening then.

"Holidays should be fun! Why would a family gather to watch something depressing or serious?" Sung said.

"Accidental Detective" opens in local theaters on Sept. 24. (Yonhap)
