Actor Yoon Doo-joon, well-known as a member of K-pop boy group Highlight, will be starring in the sequel to the 2020 comedy film, “Honest Candidate.”

The film's distributor, NEW, announced Friday that production began on “Honest Candidate 2” on July 31 and unveiled the cast.

The sequel will have the lead actors from the previous film ― Ra Mi-ran, Kim Mu-yeol, and Yoon Kyung-ho ― and will also have a special appearance from Yoon, as well as actors Seo Hyeon-woo and Park Jin-joo. Director Jang Yoo-jung from the previous film will direct the sequel as well.

“Honest Candidate,” which was released in February 2020, revolves around a cunning politician named Sang-sook (Ra) who suddenly loses her ability to lie. The change messes up her reelection campaign, putting her seasoned career at risk.

The flick garnered popularity with its comical plot and performances, especially by Ra. She received the Best Leading Actress award at the 41st Blue Dragon Film Awards for her performance in the film.

“Honest Candidate 2” will be Yoon's first film appearance since his discharge from the military in April 2020. The film's premiere date has not yet been determined.

Yoon debuted in 2009 as the leader of the K-pop boy group Beast, which was later renamed as Highlight. He began acting after landing a lead role in the short series, “Splash Splash Love,” in 2015. Since then, he has starred in various films and TV shows, including KBS's “Radio Romance” and tvN's “Let's Eat.”
