YouTube has become a “golden goose” for many who seek success, with about 10,000 people working as creators in Korea ― even prominent actress Shin Se-kyung.
Shin created her channel in September to share her daily routine with fans but has only uploaded five videos. Still, she has garnered over 400,000 subscribers thanks to clips that reveal the lifestyle of a well-known actress. Since the lives of actresses have mostly been not readily available, Shin's revelations are fresh enough to attract many followers.
In the videos, Shin cooks, goes for a walk and meets friends, just like ordinary people do. She even edits the videos.
When she appeared on MBC show “Section TV Entertainment News” on Monday, Shin showed her affection for the channel.
“I would never pass on my YouTube channel to someone else, even if the number of subscribers surges,” she said.
So why are stars jumping into the world of YouTube?

“I can show my genuine features on YouTube,” comedian-turned-YouTuber Kim Ki-soo said during a YouTube creator event in Seoul last year. “I had to act based on scripts in the past, but now I can display myself.”
YouTube also can help people get more fans.
“There are a myriad of fans from England, Italy and Japan among YouTube subscribers” Kim said.
But not everyone welcomes the celebrities' YouTube activities since big name stars can draw subscribers with more ease, regardless of content quality. Some say it is unfair competition.
