Singer-actress IU's new songs will be released in time to appear on spring playlists.
IU, 27, will put out her fifth full-length album “Lilac” on March 25, about four years after the release of her fourth album “Palette.”
IU's agency EDAM Entertainment announced the news on her official Twitter and disclosed a teaser image. In the photo, IU, sporting a white shirt, is gazing into the camera against a backdrop of falling flowers.
More details about the album ― such as the title of the lead single and the track list ― are being kept under wraps for now. But IU, who has been actively participating in the creative process of her albums, is again expected to bring her creativity to the fore again.
After winning the Digital Song of the Year ― the grand prize ― and Best Digital Song Award at the Golden Disc Awards in January, IU hinted at her new release during her acceptance speech, saying, “It may be able to energize listeners.”
To give a glimpse of “Lilac,” the K-pop diva unveiled in January the single "Celebrity,” one of the songs to be included on her album. The track stormed up music charts upon its release.
IU debuted with the ballad “Mia” in 2008 at the age of 15 and has dropped a string of hits including “Good Day” (2010), “Twenty-three” (2015) and “Palette” (2017).
She has also forged an acting career. IU, who started acting in 2011 by appearing on the KBS TV drama “Dream High,” has starred in several other popular series such as “Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo” (2016) and “Hotel Del Luna” (2019). She is poised to make her feature film debut this year in the sports movie “Dream."
