The popularity of cable channel OCN's fantasy thriller "The Uncanny Counter" is rising steadily.
Its fifth episode aired on Saturday garnered 6.1 percent viewership nationwide, according to Nielsen Korea. This was a slight fall from 6.7 percent the previous week, the highest rating for this drama so far.
The 16-part TV series, starring Cho Byeong-kyu and Kim Se-jeong, began on Nov. 28 with 2.7 percent ratings, but its viewership increased thanks to unexpected plot twists. The second and third episodes scored 4.4 and 5.3 percent ratings, respectively.
"The Uncanny Counter" follows demon hunters called "Counters" with special abilities who disguise themselves as noodle restaurant employees and fight against evil spirits that try to possess people. Jo plays So-moon, a counter who was severely injured as a child but now possesses incredible strength while Kim plays Ha-na who can sense evil spirits from a distance.
"So-moon is a kind and innocent character that gradually learns to overcome his trauma," Jo said during a press conference on Nov. 27. "This drama is a blend of humanism, action, and fantasy."
"The Uncanny Counter" is based on the namesake webtoon (digital comic) by Jang Yi.
It airs on Saturday and Sunday at 10:30 p.m. (KST) and is also available on Netflix.
