SBS show "Animal Farm" has apologized for using an "inappropriate caption" regarding COVID-19 in Sunday's episode, after a public backlash.
The production team released a statement on its website, saying, "It's clearly our fault … We will do better to more thoroughly monitor not just the captions but also the whole process of the production."
The latest episode showed a group of puppies fighting for food and captioned "COVID-19 Like Europeans stockpiling …"
The scene has raised people's eyebrows, leading them to criticize the caption on the show's website.
A viewer wrote, "Current coronavirus situation puts everyone's life in danger and it's more serious in Europe. So we shouldn't be using their state of mind as a joke or even as a metaphor."
Pointing out the show's international audience, another viewer said, the caption was a "disgrace to the country." The viewer continued, "I've never missed an episode of this show but I'm not watching this anymore."
The production team said it would delete the segment from the episode for further distribution through online and IPTV services.
Started in 2001, "Animal Farm" is one of the longest-running shows on SBS. It features various stories about animals in documentary-style, including rescues and stray animals.
