Nowadays, many K-pop fans make donations in the name of their beloved stars or take part in volunteering activities to have "good influence."
Fans of Kang Daniel, one of the hottest K-pop singers, are no exception. Kang's fan club recently donated around 5 million won ($4,500) to celebrate the singer's 23rd birthday on Dec. 10.
They handed the donation to Social Welfare Society (SWS,) a foundation that supports children and single mothers, in November. Kang previously took pictures for a photo exhibition aimed at enhancing Koreans' perception of child adoption. The foundation and photographer Cho Sei-hon held the exhibition.
In fact, another group of fans donated around 24 million won to SWS just a few days ago before the birthday donation.
"We began our donation project to let people know about Kang Daniel, who has a good influence by participating in several meaningful activities," said a spokesperson for the fans.
Some of them also helped distribute coal briquettes to needy people to help them survive the freezing winter weather. The fans reportedly delivered about 4,500 briquettes on Dec. 8.
Previously, they were involved in fundraising activities as well to support comfort women, the sex slaves forced to serve Japanese soldiers during wartime.
Kang Daniel made his debut as a "center" member of K-pop boy band Wanna One, after winning the second season of Mnet survival reality show "Produce 101" in 2017.
