Korean actress Kim Da-mi won the best actress award at the 22nd Fantasia International Film Festival for her performance in "The Witch Pt 1: the Subversion."
The festival is the largest for genre films and is held in Montreal, Canada. This year's event began on July 13 and will end on Aug. 2.
According to the film's distributor, Warner Bros. Korea, Wednesday, Kim won the "Cheval Noir Award for Best Actress."
"Newcomer Kim Da-mi delivers an immaculate, layered performance, displaying intricacy and range in realms both physical and emotional," the festival's award jury said. "This portrayal marks the introduction of a new heroine."
Last year, veteran actor Song Kang-ho won the best actor award at Fantasia for his movie "A Taxi Driver."
"The Witch" is about a high school student with supernatural powers, Ja-yoon, and mysteries surrounding her. It is Kim's first lead role.
The film premiered on June 27 and has sold over 3 million tickets.
