SAN FRANCISCO — ChatGPT-maker OpenAI on Monday took the first step toward going public on Wall Street, a week after arch-rival Anthropic, as both companies look to raise the massive sums needed to expand.

In a social media post, the company led by Sam Altman said it had recently submitted a confidential IPO filing, but had "not decided on timing yet" for any listing.
