A Florida couple have been found guilty of lewd and lascivious exhibition after having sex on a beach.

According to the Bradenton Herald, the couple — Jose Caballero, 40, and Elissa Alvarez, 20 — face up to 15 years in jail and will have to register as sex offenders.

A video showing the incident was played in court and witnesses said a girl, 3, saw the couple.

Defense attorney Ronald Kurpiers said he would try his best to get a lower sentence.

“I need to get out my knee pads so I can get down and beg,” he said.

Following the incident, a Washington-based interest group has urged state attorney Ed Brodsky not to seek a 15-year prison term for the couple.

“As outrageous as Mr. Caballero’s behavior was, it would be even more outrageous for the state to make him spend 15 years in prison,” said Julie Stewart, president and founder of the Families Against Mandatory Minimums.

“As a parent, I would not want my children to see people having sex on a public beach in the middle of the day. But as a taxpayer, I would be even more offended to waste hundreds of thousands of dollars to punish Mr. Caballero’s irresponsible behavior.”
