Thai scientists snare monster stingray

Scientists in Thailand have caught a car-sized stingray.

National Geographic said Wednesday the creature measured 2.4 meters across and 4.3 meters long and weighed 363 kilograms. Nantarika Chansue, a veterinarian and professor at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, provided the data.

Scientists caught the giant stingray in about 20 meters of water in the Mae Klong River, about an hour from Bangkok. They released it soon after.

Scientists believe the stingray ranks among the largest freshwater fish in the world.
