U.S., Canada 'colder than Mars' this winter

Some places on Earth are colder this winter than the warmest temperatures on Mars.

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) designated most of Canada and the northern U.S. as “Colder than Mars,” according to their Twitter arm “Mars Weather” on Thursday.

The SNS webpage updates climatic conditions on Mars based on data transmitted from on-site robotic rover Curiosity.

“It will be colder than @MarsCuriosity’s location in Gale Crater throughout much of the northern US and Canada today,” said Mars Weather.

Curiosity reported on Monday that the highest temperature on Mars was -8C. On Earth, the temperature in Toronto, southern Canada was -14C on the same day.

In New York City, it was as low as -13C on Thursday. Iqaluit in Nunavut, Canada, recorded -28C on Friday.

The average temperature on Mars is about -60C.
