Controversial movie “The Interview” has made more money for Google than any other movie this year, Bloomberg reported on Monday.
The comedy ― about a plot to assassinate North Korean leader Kim Jong-un ― made more than $2.8 million (3.77 billion won) through sales on online platforms such as Google Play, YouTube and Xbox.
According to Sony Pictures on Sunday, total online profits exceeded $15 million (16.48 billion won).
The movie cost $5.99 online and $14.99 per download.
It opened at 300 independent theaters on Christmas Day.
Sony Pictures reportedly spent $80 million to produce and market the film.
