'Saved by the Bell' star arrested in stabbing

Dustin Diamond, popularly known as “Screech” from the 1990s American sitcom “Saved by the Bell,” was arrested last week after a stabbing incident in Wisconsin, reports said.

According to the arrest report, the incident took place at a bar in Port Washington late Thursday night. Diamond, 37, was charged with second-degree recklessly endangering safety; carrying a concealed weapon; and use of a dangerous weapon.

Diamond said he and his girlfriend, Amanda Schutz, 27, were inside the bar when a group of inebriated people began to insult them.

According to the police report, Diamond said he went to pay his bill, but then turned around to see his girlfriend bleeding and two men holding her hair.

Diamond said he may have stabbed a man with a pen in the fracas. Later, he admitted to having a knife on him, the police report said.

"Diamond stated that he did not intentionally stab the individual in the bar but that chaos broke out and people were grabbing at him and that he swung his arms to break free," the report stated, according to CNN.

The couple drove away but was stopped by police, who said they found a knife in the car. The blade was moist, the police said.

Police said the man who was stabbed had wounds that were not life threatening.

NBC reported that Diamond briefly appeared in court on Monday, but he said nothing.

Diamond played the character of Samuel "Screech" Powers, a loveable nerd, on the show from 1989 to 1993.
