Enraged man strangles girlfriend's cat

A man in Redondo Beach, Calif. has been arrested for allegedly strangling his girlfriend’s cat to death in a bout of rage, reports said.

Police officers found the cat dead in the woman’s garage after being notified of the incident, KABC reported Wednesday.

“It appears that during a fit of rage, Smirnoff strangled the cat,” Sgt. Shawn Freeman was quoted as saying.

Sergei Smirnoff, 23, was arrested for animal cruelty and is being held at the Redondo Beach jail. Bail has been set at $20,000 (22 million won).

The cat was reportedly rescued from an animal shelter.

Smirnoff is due in a Torrance courtroom on Monday.
