Passengers help free frozen plane

A Russian plane with frozen brakes could not take off from the icy tundra ― so passengers went outside in freezing temperatures to push it.

Seventy-four oil industry rotation workers aboard UTair Airline’s Tupolev Tu-134 went outside in temperatures as low as minus 52 degrees, and pushed together to get the plane moving on Wednesday.

Russian news agency Itar-Tass said the plane took off safely 262 kilometers north of the Arctic Circle in the Krasnoyarsk region.

The agency quoted one passenger as saying that “writing a book, planting a tree, or at least using one’s muscles to help an immobilized passenger plane take to the skies,” were what made life worth living for a real man.
